About

Hello! I am Naomi aka Nomes and was practically born with a pair of scissors in my hand.

It started in my childhood, a passion for scissors and cutting which progressed, so much so I couldn't bear to be parted from a pair. Even when having a portrait taken with my brother and sister Sarah and Simon.  I live and work in the North East of the England where I design and construct textile pieces for commission, for my loved ones and myself.

I set up Textiles by Gnomes in 2013 after producing commissioned textile pieces for Seven Stories, National Centre for Children's Books in Newcastle upon Tyne.

I have since produced story chairs and textile installations for institutions across the North East including commissioned pieces for Great North Museum: Hancock, The Baby Hub Gateshead, National Media Museum, The British Library and Tower Bridge.

My passion is working in collaboration with individuals, as well as cultural and educational institutions.

Creating interactive pieces within exhibitions, themed spaces or bringing to life an image or idea. My portfolio of work includes costumes, story chairs, sculptural pieces and decorative toys.
